There are two widely recognized test standards for measuring acoustical ceiling tile performance:

Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC)
This is a single number rating between 0- 1.0 that defines the sound absorption performance of a material. The higher the number, the better the acoustic performance. As a rule, NRC numbers are utilized when looking at reducing noise levels within an interior space. |

Ceiling Attenuation Class (CAC)
This measurement defines the ability of a ceiling tile to block airborne sound transmission between different areas. This measurement indicates the ability of a product to function as a noise barrier versus an acoustic absorber. The higher the CAC number, the better sound blocking performance you can expect. |
